Alright ladies, as promised, I am filling you all in on how things went with the mound of rhubarb I got from the garden! So was it another one for the ‘Pinterest Success’ record books?? I am happy to say, YES!!! I didn’t know this before but I am in LOVE with rhubarb! Also, did you know it is a vegetable?!?! I didn’t either.
So, remember this bag…?
This is what it looks like now…
The first thing I did was make a rhubarb sauce (I figured I’d start out easy). I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I got some great guidance from Recipetips.com. Much to my delight, I tasted it and it was amazing!!!! Then I took a little break and enjoyed it over some greek yogurt 😉
Then it was back to work. The next thing I made was rhubarb crumble. This was a little more difficult…but in the grand scheme of things, super easy! Somehow, I still managed to read the directions wrong and made it upside down, with the crumble on the bottom instead of on the top. Lucky for me, it still tastes the same!!! YUUUUMMMMMMM!!!! I might add a little powdered sugar to the top to make it look a little more appealing though! I got my recipe from The Putman Place.
In fact, this mission was such a great success that I am going to dare to make a rhubarb pie for an upcoming BBQ we are having at our house. I have to find some way to use the other 3/4 of the rhubarb plant, right???
What was life even like before Pinterest?!?! It is hard to believe the website is so new – although I do still remember tearing out pages of magazines and storing them in a little file folder. I inevitably forgot all about the folder until the next time I found a great idea in a magazine. And there the ideas sat. Never to be enacted. Then…the wonderful world of Pinterest came to life, as did the amazing, inspiring ideas posted on nicely organized boards.
Naturally, I am not a very crafty person. I don’t think I am all that creative either. This is part of the reason I love Pinterest so much! Not only does it list creative things to do, but it also links to instructions on how to do/make these things! I’ve tried several things in the past couple months – some have been great successes, some have been great failures 😉
First, I will list some of my failures:
Yarn wrapped wreath – I got the wreath half wrapped and it was already so disfigured that the garbage seemed to be the best location for it.
No-bake cookie dough dip – The first time I served this was during my daughter’s first birthday party. Mistake. While it wasn’t totally disgusting, it wasn’t great. And definitely not party worthy. The main ingredient is chickpeas. Not-so-good.
Pan lid storage rack – For this one, I searched and searched for the perfect size wire magazine rack to put in my pan cupboard to neatly store the lids. It was going to be beautifully, perfectly organized. Not exactly. The rack didn’t quite fit in the cupboard… I had to turn it sideways to be able to fit it in. Then the lids just rolled off. Luckily it works great for holding my magazines 🙂
My Pinterest Successes:
A little note about this one, if you try it, I would recommend grinding the flax seed first. The texture is a little funky if you don’t. Also, flax seed packs a lot of fiber…consider yourself warned!
Mint + Grapefruit (Note: Adds bitterness to the water, but very good for you!) + Orange (Or Tangerine)+ Cucumber
This isn’t fully finished, but I can just tell it’s going to be a success 🙂 I’m planning on putting it above my bed – Cute!!! (In case you are wondering why the yarn and twine are in a tangled mess, my dogs thought it would be fun to unravel them and drag them around the house…nice, right?)
And… planned for tomorrow, I need to skim Pinterest for how to use a whole gallon bag full of rhubarb from my garden!!! I’ll let you all know how it turns out!
Hopefully I can add this to my Pinterest success! I’d love to hear about your Pinterest Wins/losses! What was a great idea? What is something we shouldn’t bother trying?
P.S. More Pinterest ideas trial and error coming soon!
No, not the taste. They still taste amazing! But the box has switched it up a bit. Now when you purchase them at a bulk store (like Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s) you’ll get your cheerios with TWO big boxes packaged together. The new “2 box Cheerios” contains two individual boxes, which is made to make it easier to store and easier to pour.
I personally enjoyed the new 2 box system, it was definitely easy to store. Poured just as easy as ever! But they did have some extra perks too. They include:
- Decreasing the amount of air in the bags, so that they can fit 10% more cereal than before, and it uses less packaging.
- While each box contains more cereal, packaging is reduced by over 200,000 pounds, saving 1,000 trees and taking 130 Cheerios trucks off the road which ultimately decreases CO2 emissions.
Want to see what I mean? Check it out:

The following statement is going to sound weird, however I feel as though many moms would feel the same way if in this situation: It is hard transitioning from a full time working mom (or student, in my case) to a full time stay at home mom! I graduated from dental school last Friday and am currently in the process of finding a job, which means we have taken LO out of daycare while I am unemployed. She is so used to having such a set schedule at daycare and only seeing me for a couple hours per day. I’m used to more of a set schedule as well, and being able to do the things I want when I want to do them without having to worry about what to do with the LO. Understandably, this created a lot of push-and-pull and frustration! I was confused about what to do with a little toddler all day. Not to mention, our communication was lagging 😉 She definitely communicates what she wants, I just needed to get used to what everything meant! This caused her to be frustrated too!
But, not to fear, just as I was thinking that days at home full time were going to be torture, we figured each other out again!!! And it has been amazing – I’m not going to want to go back to work!
Mom + 15 month-old ==> Our Routine:
10:00am-11:00am – Wake up, get dressed and eat breakfast together
11:00am-1:00pm – Run around town doing errands/activities OR Play time, outside if weather permits
1:00pm-1:30pm – Lunch (might be at home, might be while we are out and about)
1:30pm-2:30pm – Play time
2:30pm-3:30pm – Nap (might be at home, might be in the car
3:30pm-4:00pm – Snack
4:00pm-6:30pm – Welcome home papa/family time OR Mama goes to the gym
6:30pm-7:30pm – Dinner
7:30pm-9:00pm – Play/night time activities
9:00pm – Bed time!
Here’s a good website with tips on creating a toddler routing – I found it helpful 🙂 Tips for creating a toddler routine
Now that we’ve got that all written out, let me add a disclaimer… I am not really a person of routine. I get bored easily and like to do a lot of different things outside the house. Because of this, this is strictly a rough outline of what our days look like. Many of LO’s naps happen in the car while we are out and about. We are lucky if we get her to go to sleep by 9:00pm. With the two of us getting up at 10:00am, the 9:00 bed time has not really been happening! I’ve been very blessed with a fairly easy going baby! As long as she’s got food and a chance to nap in the afternoon, she’s fairly content 🙂
I hope you all enjoyed reading about our toddler routing – I’d love to hear what yours looks like!
1. I’m finishing up dental school (finally) and have been really busy with that
2. I can’t seem to keep my LO away from catching EVERYTHING that comes into daycare, so she has been constantly sick.
3. It’s starting to get nice outside so I’ve been trying to spend as much time out there as possible – It’s Minnesota, you never know if it is going to snow tomorrow!!
Ok, Excuses over. Notice I did not add the gym to my list of excuses. That is because I have been REALLY slacking for the past month. Yes, month. There are just no excuses for that. Because of this, I have managed to gain 4 lbs back. Not good. What’s frustrating is I worked so hard to lose those 4 pounds (and the other 21 that I have managed to keep off). I just need to get my work ethic back and lose them again (and another 20 on top of that). I can do it. I know I can. I just have to be determined and controlled enough. After I have a brownie from the pan that is currently in the oven 😉 Shame.
Now, to what I originally planned on writing about – As Ruby said it’s GARAGE SALE SEASON!!!! AHHHHHH! Ruby and I went out on a cold and rainy Saturday to find some amazing deals, and that we did! The Just Between Friends (JBF) in Maple Grove was a week and a half ago. Let me in on a little secret – This is the absolute BEST sale for moms and moms-to-be. The first time I went, I was in my second trimester and had so much left to get for my first LO. My mom and I went to the 1st-time-mom pre-sale and stocked up on so many necessities for a great price! Now that I have most of the things I need, I go on the last day of the sale (Saturday), when everything is half off. It is nice because this sale is so huge that it takes soooo long to sift through everything. By Saturday, the loot is much more manageable to go through and there is still plenty of goodies to be had – at half price!!!
Can you guess how much I spent??? Look closely at all the name brands! Puma, Gap, Robeez, Ralph Lauren, Old Navy, Carters, GAP and more Gap… Only $75!!!! For all of it! I basically stole some of this stuff!
What a great way to kick off garage sale season! I wish you all a lucky and plentiful season!!! We’d love for you to share your greatest finds so far!
